Five.tv and Demand Five are committed to making output as accessible as possible to all users. In order to achieve this, we have implemented a series of design and editorial guidelines and introduced several features to improve accessibility for users with special needs and/or those using assistive devices.
These include:TV listings for Audio described and Signed programmes. The Five website provides a daily list of all signed or audio described programmes for each TV channel in the UK, up to 2 weeks in advance. Simply visit our TV listings section at:
http://www.five.tv/tvguide and click on the 'signed' link or 'audio described' link at the top of the page.
SubtitlingAs per Ofcom guidelines 80% of our programmes broadcasted on Five are subtitled for the hearing impaired. On Demand Five, where programmes were subtitled for broadcast we will endeavour to ensure that subtitles are available. Where subtitling is not available on Demand Five programmes it has been omitted due to a different version being required for the service, which is due to rights and clearances and competition editing on the service. To find out if there are subtitles available and activate them when viewing Demand Five using Windows Media Viewer click the subtitles button in the Windows Media Viewer window. For video being viewed through our Flash player we currently do not offer subtitling, but we are developing a subtitling solution to be released shortly.
Colour SchemesAll colour schemes are optimised for readability.
Scalable TextText size is scalable to allow users to increase or decrease font size depending on their requirements. (Note: some browsers do not support this option).
